New yellow Fiji leather and a couple of Qs

I got this Fiji leather last week. So far it seems to be doing well.

I was reading that they're a little pickier on water quality than other leathers, and that they like more flow/light. Does anyone have any care tips?

It's currently near the bottom of a tank with VHO lighting. It seems to be opening up reasonably well, and expanding during the day.

This pic shows the color better, the first pic looks washed out in comparison to how it looks in the tank.

ya mine can be a bit more finicky than some of my other corals, but i find that if i just leave it be it always comes back fine. Just dont keep moving it around right away...wait to see how it does in a certain spot before you go moving it. Mine can take a few days to open after i move it, even if its only like 4 inches. That being said, you may just have to move yours up a bit...they like lots of light.

Here's my fiji yellow. I've had this since january and its more than doubled..its probably 7 inches at least now.

I would recommend moving it up much higher, almost to the top of your rock. Yellow Fiji Leathers have just about as high of light requirements as SPS.

sir_dudeguy, yours also looks like a standard leather, unless the colors on the photo are off quite a bit. All the Yellow Figi's I've seen are a bright florescent yellow, nothing close to brown. Again, could be the image however.

Nope, its a fiji yellow. That pic is just the actinics on so i guess it looks kinda weird. When daylights come on, its pretty much like the one lotus posted.

Here...you can see the difference a bit more if you look at my regular toadstool and then that one. Again...under actinics only.

And here's a pic of the whole tank where you can see both at the same time, along w/my bright green toadstool up in the top right

Gotcha. That last shot shows it a bit clearer.

Yep And most of the fiji yellows that i see have more folds in them like mine...i was kinda surprised at how flat yours was lotus. How big is it? Maybe its just too small to fold over yet??

Mine is currently only about 3" in diameter. The yellow isn't coming out in the pics of mine too well, either. The color looks like a yellow dish sponge! It has more folds in it when it's expanded, and goes pretty flat at night.

Because my lights are suspended over the tank, when I take pictures, the tank looks a lot darker due to the brightness at the top. Perhaps I need to play with the exposure on the camera.

I put it down lower to acclimate it, and didn't realize when I got it that it had higher light requirements than a regular leather. I'll move it up in a few days. It's been in the tank about 10 days now. I wanted to make sure it was doing OK before moving it.

Thanks for all the info so far
