Gisho and rsxs1212...I have a temporary 1 inch foam shield with coat hangers attached to hang from the top of the metal for protection. I put it up when we play. When I skin the stand, I'll come up with somethig more visually appealing for a permanent solution. The table is actually 61 inches from the tank, so I have lots of room to play. The tank is 96x31.5x30.5 external measurement.
daywn...Yeah, that's why I put the tarp there. When I'm gluing pvc, I also put cardboard on top of the tarp for absorbtion.
rsxs1212...Yo dude, missed you at the BBQ. You missed some great food and an incredible coral farm.

Very nice dimensions Mike. That is going to be a monster tank!
Good luck with the build. For me, that is always the funnest part.
Looks like you've got things well planned out.

Mainly sport bikes. Last bike was a Ducati 998. Before that various hondas, yamahas, etc. Dirt bikes as well. Still trail ride with some of my work friends.
Unfortunately it's just way too dangerous to street ride around here (los angeles). Been in my fair share of wrecks (not my fault, due to idiot drivers)...last one could have easily ended my life (slid across oncoming lanes). Scared me to be honest...decided it wasn't worth losing my life over. Still ride at the track with buddies' bikes, but since I didn't want to ride on the street anymore, decided it wasn't worth it financially to keep a bike....ah well, spent the $$ on my tanks instead! Now I just borrow bikes.

I wrecked one in LA in 1980 while in the USAF at March AFB. Got cut off on the hwy. It's better here, other than the senior citizens who don't see you.

2006 Yahama Road Star Silverado. I've had it a few weeks over a year and put about 6,000 miles on it. I'm a cruiser type.

mflamb - Great idea using the pond foam! Also thanks for linking Sidewinder's thread as well with the pond foam on his tank back. I am picking up a 225 acrylic with a clear back and this is exactly what I am going to do with it. I know using that stuff is a real treat as I have used it in my pond before .... messy, messy!

Sara B...I used the foam with the extended nozzle...no mess at all. We had no problems putting it on. Put it on thin...it will double in size overnight!!!

Thanks for the recommendations! I am also going to try and attach some LR ledges into the wet foam for future SPS frags!

I'm going to put star polyps on the foam and try to cover most of the back wall with it.

Just found your thread. That thing is a beast! Very nice! And I thought moving my 115g from them was tough. Can't wait to see the progression...

Nice setup. Wish I had the knowledge, money and space to do something like that. If I ever get chance to really go SW, I believe I'll be looking into a metal stand. I love the stand and have friend and 2 brothers who can weld. I always tll my brothers they got the building skills from our dad and I got the looks.

I have 1 question about it though. I notice the top part sits about 1" - 2" above the tank with no kind of support besides the back bracing. Once you have installed lights and the paneling, are you worried about the extra weight causing some problems and possibly bending the support? Or are you going to put some kind of spacers between the top of tank and the canopy to help support the weight?

Unome...the four steel supports are 1.5" square tubing. The hood frame structure will support three 200+ pound guys hanging from the front with less than 1/2 inch deflection, so my lights and wood skin should be ok. The hood was designed that way so there is no weight on the tank. Check out page 1 and page 25 of this thread: http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hreadid=522988

Well...I did some more plumbing this weekend. I have one of the OM 4-ways finished and I connected the 3/4" loc-line to the sump return and the right side OM 4-way.

Mike - that looks so cool! I take it that you have your plans written down or are you the type that just starts putting things together? How much planning would you say you've put in it so far?

I love the foam back - very different. I might try it with a 29 G that I'm doing just to see how it looks (future reference) .

ReefArtist..I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish, as far as tank size, flow, filtration, lighting wattage, based on my goal of keeping sps and fish, and on lots of automation for dosing, reactors, topoff, water changes, light schedule. I studied many large tanks here on RC and in person since my first reef started in 1997. As I figured out what I wanted, such as Dart pumps and OM 4-ways, loc-line, foam back, dual beckett skimmer, etc, I would add them to the list. Then I buy parts and pieces as I need them to fill up the time allotted for construction that month. I got serious about this project in May, and after a trip to east Africa in June/July, I got started. I expect to put the first fish in the tank in April/May 2007. I'm still in the planning stage as I build. I haven't decided on which calcium reactor setup, what po4, o3, and carbon reactors I will use. I'm close to decided on which ballasts and bulbs I will use, and I still have to build my sump/fuge.
Mike

rayman45...it is a Glass Cages tank. So far I'm completely pleased.
Mike
