Joe, my tank is 72 x 30 x 30, with dual overflows. Each overflow is 12" x 6", footprint-wise. The drains are 1.5" and the returns are 1".

They are pretty big, and in each corner, but the surface always looks perfectly clean. I don't know how my tank would do with only one overflow, honestly.

I'm using a VorTech pump which I really like. You can dial in the speed as needed, and you can move it. It takes up very little space compared to my two Tunze 6100s. Looking at your pictures, I think the VorTechs would look better due to aesthetics.

Happy to be subscribed to this thread, seeing you start up from scratch.

Hey JB, I finally found your new thread.

What are your lighting reflector plans with the new 36" wide tank?

Are you thinking sand or BB?

Keeping XM MH with Actinic VHO?

Great to see back here, especially with a built thread. Your tank and web page have always inspired me, good luck with the new tank. I am sure it will be TOTM some day.

Nice JB

I also like corner overflows better than center unless external.

This is a pic of cali's cube with the external feature which looks neat:

Hi Joe,
Got here a little late But I think it looks Good but I would recommend 30" height if you haven't ordered already. At 24" it will look a bit odd with a 36" width. Single corner overflows don't work well with a wave box because of the drain noise generated by the sudden changes in water flow. I like to run my overflow boxes only 9" down then out the back. It gives you a nice space under them which increases tank space. The downside is you need to have some space behind the tank for the piping (I can email you some pictures of my 450).

Are you using an extension on your SK4200? If not I would strongly recommend one (12") for your new tank. I'm running 2 of the SK4200's and a SK5200 all with the 12" extension and they perform outstanding with increased capacity and stability.

Regards,
Kevin

Joe,

Nice meeting you at MACNA! I've been running one wave box on my 8 foot long tank and I just purchased the extension at the trade show. You'll need one if you want any considerable wave.

hey joe,
nice to see a fellow islander on here. your previous tank looked amazing! how's the new tank coming along? just out of curiousity where are you on the island? I live in stony brook right near the university. What local stores do you go to? I usually buy supplies online but for fish and corals I usually go to suffolk county fish and reef in ronkonkoma.

Yeah everything got delayed due to some work in the house that needed to get finished. So now with the holidays coming up, I am planning to re-do the sump room in the basement and get the tank sometime in the Feb/March timeframe.

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to get things moving again.
