candy cane

I have a colony of blue candy cane about 3 years old, recently I have noticed a strange growth pattern. Where two heads touch a "bubble" has formed that actually connects the heads, no sweepers appear so I do not think it is a new head since I see no new tube. I have tried to find out if it is a disease or if it is a sign that it needs to be fragged. It has plenty of room and is attached to rock midway up under 250 HQI's. Has anyone ever seen this type of growth? If I could i would attach a pic but do not have the right camera.

Thanks Mike

A few heads on my grew in a deformed manner. I fragged it and gave it to the LFS. The frag that I kept didn't have any deformed heads and it's been growing normally now.

Could it be a form of coral polyp extrusion?

Here's a link to Eric Borneman's web page on the subject:

There are a couple of pictures of Caulastrea on there.
