Naso Tang and what other tang 120 g.

I have a 120 AGA reef. I have a Naso tang in my "Q" tank.

What other tang is acceptable to place him with?

I was thinking a purple tang, since they stay around the same length 10 inchs or so, from what i have read.

Should i introduce both at the same time?

Any other tangs acceptable?

TIA

FYI- You'r naso tang will outgrow the 120. My guess is that its a 4 foot tank so you want to stay with small tangs such as the kole and contvict tang. Also 2 tangs in a 4 foot tank isn't a good idea either.

Hmmm...Yeah I guess a Purple or yellow would be okay. A Regal or Convict would be good also. My personal favorite is the Kole tang, they will take care of any algae problem you may have.

Gobydude777- A regal tang gets over 12''. A 120 gallon tank is a 4 foot. A regal tang wouldn't be a good choice because once he becomes an adult he won't have enough room.

A standard 120 is 4 foot long.

Oh, sorry, you will probably have to stick with one small tang. Hang on a sec, I thought standard 75 is 4 feet, 90 is 5, and 120 was 6? Oh well.

Nope. Both are 4 foot. A 90 gallon is also a 4 foot tank. Just the height and width change.

Got it. Now I won't buy a 120 thinking I can have 2-3 tangs. That would be bad, I might laugh at myself afterwords but it would be bad.

Also encouraging the LFS to buy more Naso's. Don't you see, its like an alcoholic taking another drink... it leads to another, and another, and another. Nasos get about 18 inches long. YES he would have a hard time in a 4' tank. You picked one of the largest tangs for one of the smallest tanks. If you want to house one of these in the long term think 240 gallons or bigger.

well the books are wrong. Look them up on liveaquaria.com...
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...cfm?pCatId=357
or marinedepot.com
http://www.marinedepotlive.com/753954.html

And of coarse these guys are trying to sell you these fish so they will keep the number of gallons down.

You have to understand that Naso's are one of the biggest of the tangs in our hobby. Whatever/wherever you found the information that you did on them, I'm sorry to say but you were misinformed. Naso's get to almost 2 feet. They should probably be in nothing smaller than a 180, but that might even be pushing it. I would seriously consider taking it back for something else.

Evanish, I have seen a lot of 120 gallon tanks that are 6'. Even just as much as the 4' ones.

As far as the tangs, if you want to do multiple tangs in your tank I would suggest two that don't grow to be as large as most of the others, maybe a yellow and powder blue? They're of different genus so any bickering between them is minimal. I have both in my 125 and they get along great and really stand out.

I know thats probably not what you wanted to hear, but it is what's best for your fish.

Kerry

Im just going by a list of stardard tank sizes but even if the tank was 6 foot the naso would sooner or later outgrow it. (120 gallon 6 foot tank )

You're right. Regardless, a 120 whether it be 4' or 6' is still too small to house a naso long term.

Yes I have personal experiance with a naso. A tank that I PERSONALLY cared for, (for 3 years) had a naso in it. That tank was 300 gallons, and he was 15" when I stopped cleaning their tank and examining the fish. When they first got him he was about 8-10 inches long. He grew about 6 inches in 3 years. One thing I noticed is that he would be way to active for my 125 gallon... he barely would be able to turn around.
