i picked up two sps today at work
a purple one that fell and had some danmage ( really nice monti digi)
and a
seriatapora ( sp) dark pink
picts later
btw guys keep in mind im always wanting to trade frags!! i currently have some intresting things but nothing to rare ( so maybe coral and some cash for your rarer coral)

well
i dont have any heaters
but my frag tanks are outside
temp of room is 68 degrees at 61 percent humidity!
tanks temps are stable
i added an extra pump to my one tank (100 watt pump same thing as 100 watt heater.) the tank normany runs at 72 and is maintaining that
my sps tank im not worried about it runs 78 normaly and seems to be maintaining
i do have a blow torch ready ( can heat the room FAST!!)

some macro shots
please note the one monti was injured by a hammer or hydnophora ( i forget which) and the lil white specks are CA precipitate NOT paracites ( trust me when i saw those i ranout there and freaked lol) all brances are new growth except the ones that show danmage

the CA reactor im trying to build
( water on lense sorry)

with a lil glue you can glue the bottom of a maxijet into a 1/2 inch coupling ( i used the green can of pvc glue )
and the output fits perfectly into a 1/2 inch (i belive jaco fitting) anyways its a removable slip fitting used on lots of ro units

Where did you get the plans for the DIY calcium reactor? It looks pretty cool.

Nice pics. I am interested in the calcium reactor. Could you go over it in a little more detail?

have a seperate thread for it but i will gladly repost some of it here

anyways.. i got it running ( water in water out.. no co2 yet)
and have added air bubbles to the line to test its repriming capabilitys( as long as it isnt such a large air bubble as to stop the pump it eventualy reprimes ( even faster if i close hte restriction valve ( there for increasing flow in from the iinlet line)
the water this thing is capable of moving without the use ofa gravity feed or a dosing pump is amazing.. i get a very fast stream from the output when i have hte restriction valve baraly closed.

anyways.. brb

my new monti may be some form of a rainbow monti ( but not encrusting) or atleast i dont think it is encrusting... god encrusting corals will be a pita to grow and frag
but i see some differently colored polyps in the colony ( some reds and yellows)

as promised

make any sense?

well it dosnt work well.... so the new plan is to move the output to the top so that any excess air can escape ( while still allowing some co2 buildup ) this will allow me to SEAL the top to the bucket and i will use the opening at the top to fill the unit ( using a union and a wider pipe before reducing it to 1/4

im thinking of siliconing the top inplace. but im going to try chaning the output first..

right now im leak testing it by turning hte bucket upside down.. so far so leaks.. weird... i guess the o ring was sealing

intake works by splitting the pump intake iv seen it doen on bermuda brand ca reactors

thing i like about it so far is it allows a small air pocket a thte top and any excess gets pumped out

this allows a poclet of co2 to form and be used over and over ( till it all disolves)

the pump is almost always sucking in a lil of the air pocket. this should minimize ph fluxuation in teh reactor
