Another Suggest-A-Fish Thread
I've decided to add 2 more fish to my little slice of the ocean.
Tank is as follows: 40B MH&T-5 Lighting SPS, LPS, Softies, Clam 2 Lyretail Anthias Yellow Watchman Goby Pistol Shrimp 1.5" Cleaner Shrimp Starry Blenny First one I think is going to be a Yellow Clown Goby. I like the way that they perch in corals and stick to the sides of the tank. Second one, I don't know yet. I've been thinking of any of the following, but I have my concerns. 1. Wrasse- Some sort of flasher, but will it eventually get big and ugly and mean? 2. Hawkfish - Flame hawk or Falco Hawk. Will it bother my PistolShrimp? 3. Pseudochromis - I'm thinking neon pseudochromis, but I'm open to other suggestions. Any input or suggestions on any of these or other types will be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't suggest getting a pseudochromis, the one I had got very mean and killed my flasher.
I would get a nice fairy or flasher wrasse. Maybe an exqusite. They are cool.

The flame hawk will most likely get your shrimp....at least mine got my cleaner shrimp....it is probably the fish with the most personality I've ever had....IMO...

A clown goby will tear up your sps, equisite wrasses kill inverts. Fridmani is my favorite psuedochromis. Bluespot jawfish are awesome, but hard to get one in healthy. Helfrichi firefish are sweet.

So many flasher wrasses to choose from. All beautiful, even as adults, and reef safe.

I think I've narrowed it down to either a Helfrichi Firefish, or some sort of Flasher Wrasse.
Male Cirrhilabrus exquisitus (Vanuatu Exquisite wrasse) Male Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis (Maldives red velvet wrasse), Halichoeres cyanocephalus (Belize Lightning wrasse) Paracheilinus cf. flavianalis (Yellow fin flasher wrasse) Any input?

I wouldn't get the lightning wrasse, it gets to be a foot. I'm getting a red velvet wrasse soon from sushiboy. I had an exqusite and he was gorgeous. He was always swimming around and was very well behaved with my fish. And he never even looked at my inverts.
My choice would be between an exusite and the velvet.

pair helfrich, mccoskers flasher (maybe a pair) and a mccullochi pseudochromis. I have one of these and she is very passive compared to other pseudos. Gets beat up by my flame hawk and clowns Shes a beautiful fish.
Of course the retail value of those fish mentioned above about 600$ lol and i think live aquaria has them all right now! exquisite and velvet get very aggressive. I wouldn't recommend them. Lineatus, flame, rhomboid, bathiphylus, laboutei are all good choices. expensive but good

I think I might stick with a Flasher. I read somewhere that they will sometimes see themselves in the glass reflections and Display. I like that idea so that I don't have to get 2 in order to see that kind of display.
Any Suggestions on what kind of flasher? I'd love a Carpenter's. And I like this Paracheilinus cf. flavianalis (Yellow fin flasher wrasse)

McCosker's Flasher Wrass (Paracheilinus mccoskeri). Sweet looking. I've no Idea on the personality etc. Melev had one, not sure if he still does.
Too spendy for me, I buy cheap fish and expensive coral. You've got PM Last edited by tinysuperbug; 10/21/2007 at 04:32 PM. |

I had a McCosker for 3 months and he was a joy. Always flashing and peaceful. Extremely beautiful fish. I recommend it for your set up.

Mccoskers flashers are very nice. But I would recommend getting a pair so the male keeps its colors.
