I think this would be a good one for the near future

We have been asked to do presenations on how to keep and care for the Tridacnid clam. We have now given several of these presentations through out the US. Our presentation is a Power Point with a Q&A followed. If your group or club is interested in such a presentaion, feel free to contact me directly at barry@clamsdirect.com or call 619 593-0565.

I would love that one kdblove. Clams seem to be the only thing I've consistently had trouble with.

I did qualify that with 'consistently'. I just managed to lose 2 clams that I've had for months due to an unknown cause. All water params are great. SPS, LPS, zoas, softies and fish all healthy. Chaeto growing well. Skimmers, lights and pumps all performing admirably, and yet both clams died within a week of each other.
Only idea I have deals with the coral beauty in my tank, but he's been there for months as well and never seemed to bother the clams. They were not even too skittish as they were not quick to close up.

I wouldn't trust a Coral beauty. WHat kinda clams did you have?

I have a Squamosa and Derasa and both These types seem to be the heartiest of the clam species

Crocea's, which I know are the most sensitive. I plan on trying maximas and Derasa's when I get my 250 set up down the road. Til then I'll be clamless.

What really seemed odd was that they seemed perfectly healthy until the day they died(typical, I know), but they really showed no signs of stress whatsoever.

Clams wipe out in a blink. We currently have six. The three we've lost in the past melted in a day.

According to Sprung and Delbeek, Croceas are the most sensitive. Maximas tend to be relatively hardy, but can also be sensitive. Derasas are the most hardy.

I will be making a regular monthly post on the RC forum regarding the months speaker and topic. I will provide a Bio, pics, etc. to drum up interest.

Given I am in the middle of taking over VP duties, I am still adjusting to the new role and getting things in order. I promise to have something up very soon for this month's speaker. If you love fish, you won't want to miss this one.

Davey, we are still planning the year's budget and I will be putting together a calendar with slots in for speakers, club mingle sessions, etc. I think the clam idea is fabulous and will see what I can do to work it in. We are going after some marquee names to really bring in the talent, so stay tuned!

Don't you have to get elected first?? I have heard a rumor that everyone is voting for none of the above.

I would love to see a club meeting devoted to instruction on Photographing Reef tanks (Trick and tips) if we are ever short for topics and don't have a speaker lined up.
I need help!

Ill start a new thread here soon to solicit ideas for meetings, but you are not alone on this (had a couple requests for this one already). As an aspiring photographer, I too share your passion and frustrations.

Big names hey?

Sanjay was #1 on my list and from what i have been told he is in february

Jeremy , I said Maximas J/k Maybe some clam experts could chime in here. I'm probably wrong Karl any input on what clams might have been the toughest for you to keep?

I have also heard Derasa are by far the Hardiest
