That is one heck of a shipment and I'm sure you're incredibly excited like Doc said. I only have a 55 gallon and just with the "goodies" I got in the mail when I started it I went crazy opening everything. Good luck with it.

Hello,

Yes actually I have made a bit of progress... I was a little side tracked by Tilelaying, Grouting and all the rock for the Facade of the room but was finally able to start work on the Overflows and the Back of the tank

I built the overflows from Plywood that then had Acrylic overflow slotted gates siliconed to the top... then this entire fixture I covered in the BrewCoat Epoxy... I then took 12 cans of the Black Pond foam and decorated the back of the tank... 2 days later I gobbed more BrewCoat all over the dryed and hardened foam... then while it was wet I sprinkled coral chunks, shells, rubble and argonite sand all over the back... now as it has dried it has the texture and appearance of rock... I am hoping that with time as coralline covers this it will be perfect

Wow ..It sounds like it is coming along perfect. Everything is looking great..

I am thinking about building a wood tank in a couple months. I am realizing by the time I buy the 2 pieces of acrylic, fiberglass, epoxy, and wood I probably won’t be saving much money. I want mine to be a room divider and be seen from both sides. I do love making things and that might be the fun in it alone. How do you feel with your tank construction, now that you are so far along? I am sure it was worth it because you made it yourself, but do you have any other advice or input?

Thanks,
Eric

Well, IF I ever were to do it again I would just BUY the Best Starphire tank on the market... I did this to gain experience... and yes that I have gained ALOT To accomplish that which I have read about sooo much here, when I am fully completed I can say, "I built this" But it has taken just about as much $$$ as to have bought a non StarPhire tank plus about 6 months...

Am I happy I did it this way? YES
Having completed the "Experience" would I do it again? NO

I am sooo excited though it is almost time to start actually assembling everything

Doctor, are the overflows going to be seen from the viewing room? Why did you not go with a standard overflow setup?

IBASSFSH... The angled overflows cannot be seen from the viewing room... unless you get on your knees and look up also I felt that the angled approach looked less ummm.. manmade than something squared off and now that it is set in place on the stand I am very happy with it.... If I did this again Though I think that I would have to go with the External overflow design that I have seen here in one of the other plywood tank builds...

cbui2

Thank You Yes I have been lurking in your thread also... alot of amazing equipment there.. WOW! and as I read the techniques you will employ for your sumps, plumbing ect. ect I am amazed at how proficient your design concepts are for never having had a reef? Did you have all that much invested in your other non reef tanks? or have you just read ALOT?
