If it starts to grow about the size of a golf ball, look like one too, and feel like velvet, I wanna know too. It's infesting my tank

It is Cyano. The best way of getting rid of it is finding exactly what is causing it, i.e. High Nitrates, phosphates, lighting, flow etc.

some times it can be difficult to figure out what is causing it, but I would test for Nitrates and Phosphates, do a partial water change after removing as much as you can by hand.

CSkala,

I just noticed that you are from Sebastian as well. Have you been introduced to our local reef society yet.

We are having a meeting if this coming weekend if you are interested in attending.

yup, It's Cyno. Try to get rid of the problem that is causing it, but that may prove to be difficult. if nothing works, your LFS can provid you with something to get rid of it.

I just tested the P04 and it is not detectable 0PPM using the
salifert test kit and the Nitrate level is also not detectable.

I just changed my lighting from 175W MH with Hamilton 14K
lamps to 250W MH with Ushio 10K lamps about a month ago
could this be the cause of the the cyano outbreak? My flow is
pretty good with 2 Seio m620,s and two Maxijet 1200 and a
Maxijet 400.

DaddyPugg,

I have checked out the club website a few times and I would
like to come and check things out. PM the information for the meeting and if I can attend I will.

Chuck

I will PM you the info when I get home from work (12:30ish). All I can remember is that it is on Saturday the 4th @ 2:00pm in Palm Bay.

Not sure if the new lighting will cause the cyano. I have heard that lighting will cause it but not sure to what extent.

Yeah it's Cyano and it happens and it stinks... I've dealt with this a couple of times. I think the best thing to do is get a turkey baster and suck the pooh out of it. Get all the algae as best as u can then make a couple of water changes. This will weaken the spread and eventually it will die off. It is best to take care of it ASAP or it will spread like MAD!!!!
