To sump or not to sump?

Can you add a Sump after your tank has been up and running for 2 months? Or would that be a bad thing? I think I found one that would fit in my stand, but I in no way want to start the cycle process over.

Thanks!

I think you will be fine. Think of it as a water change with out taking any water out of your tank. Bring the new water up to salinity, temp, and ph
and add it.

Well if I like the new light fixture and the lid is going to be off. I figured I was either going to replace the skimmer now with a real one, or I wanted to add a sump. I found this sump here http://www.aquariumguys.com/eshopps-reef-sump.html and it will fit nicely in the stand. The one thing that is throwing me for a loop is the over flow box. Who, what, where and crap I will have to move my tank away from the wall a little more. But if I can get it away from the wall, why couldn't I add it to the RSM? The overflow box is the big hang up I think. I do have a fluval 205 plummed in there right now for carbon and other media(not the ceramic crap). There has to be away to do it, I plan on reading a lot more and looking at things once the lid is off. The water level is down a little ways from the back lip, so that is a challenge for sure.

RSM is a RedSeaMax? I would be leary of hanging an overflow off of the back after seeing shramj's broken tank pics this morning. Would it stress the glass enough to break it??? I use a Lifereef overflow on my tank and I like it. They are more expensive than others but worth the money. IMO. Adding 50% more water volume would be good for stability.

I dont think an overflow would crack a tank unless you were just not having a good day!
PS a sump will free up your display tank allowing you to add more coral!!! ;-P

RSM is the Red Seamax yes, I think shramj had very bad luck. There is a HUGE thread over in the nano section about the RSM and I don't think what happened to shramj has happened to anyone over there. *Crosses fingers* I will hope for the best and hope Farmers Insurance likes the claim i will file if mine breaks!

There is a nano over flow on this link that would be a good app.
