is there anyway to learn the size of an opponents fleet at a given planet?

if i send 1 detroyer to attack it - would that reveal such information?

Not that I know of. If you send that 1 destroyer you'll get a message stating what percentage of the fleet you destroyed, but that's about it. A defensive player is far better off upgrading his starbase for defense, so if you hit a lot of ships he's probably building an attack fleet.

ok - so I am dominant in my system - 3 planets - soon to be a fourth... first 3 are all highest pops, higheststarbase etc.... but what scares me is that there is another player who has a high pop but shows no other signs of anything... im thinking there is a huge fleet there.... i think i'll just sum up my fleets to the closest planet and send 100 destoyers her way.. that should work right?

That ought to work. They're probably just bumping up the factory and such instead of spending on starbase etc. You may have a landslide victory, but it's better to be safe

I just signed up and was given a planet. It seems I share a system with one other newbie and four empty planets. I am still trying to figure out the rules and see what I should do. Thus far, I have placed my points in farms.

Am I in the same game/galaxy with you guys? If so, I'd be happy to join the Reefer Alliance -- if ya'll will still have me. My coordinates are 53/2. My AstroWars name is "Runner", of course.

You new guys are in the same game, but are placed around the edges so that you don't get wiped out by the experienced players. It's great that you guys are in the same system, I've seen first hand how powerful it is in this game to have an ally nearby.
