Testing out my camera skills, check it out...

Just practicing my photography skills with my mom's digital camera. For some reason this camera takes great top down pics, but when I try to shoot something through the glass it comes out terrible. Just 2 pics of some rics, camera is a Sony Powershot DSC-W80. Feel free to comment...

Green/Gold Speckled Rics...

Neon Green Ric, one of my favorites in the tank...

Probably because the water scatters the auto-focus, so it defaults to a standard close-up. The glass will cause it to focus precisely, and your subjects are further away. You might try pressing the shutter release slowly, until you see a green light (many cameras do this) hold the release in that first position (the 'focused & ready to shoot' position) then move towards your subject approximately the distance from the glass to the subject. With many cameras, this will 'trick' the auto-focus feature into a really nice shot through aquarium glass.

Some nice shots, though. =)

i do exactly what you say, but my close ups look nothing like the pics i took above. i put the frag right up against the glass and still nothing. i don't use zoom either cus that also seems to make it blurry. maybe its the camera. thanks for the compliment though!

When shooting through glass, make sure you shoot straight on. Shooting at an angle through glass will cause distortion. That being said, those shots are really good. Beautiful pics and corals

yes i use the macro setting on it, as for lighting requirements, they don't need much. what do you have on what size tank? i believe they are the least light requireing coral, IMO.
