what do you want/need?

this forum pretty much has everything under the sun.

as for prices, I thought 80% of corals were more expensive at R.A.P than when they were offered here.

I'm just looking for cheap frags i.e. frogspawn and hammers for $5 per head, maybe some inexpensive zoos and mushrooms. I just like how at frag swaps you can get a bunch of different frags for cheap.

Our reef club is working on a holiday frag swap for December. Should be posting a notice before too long so keep your eyes open.

I dont think there can be too many events...

The more events the better the competition, and the better the prices... Which is why RAP may have not had the best prices around...

If you recall, some vendors were discussing how they left with inventory... Well if they lower thier prices, and people learn to expect better prices at a this setting, then it will be a win win win setup, they win, we win, and the corals win.....

As far as selection goes RAP this year was way better then CFM. And admission was only $5. Maybe RAP was more expensive because alot of the sellers were retailers. CFM is more www based stores that are run out of their homes.

CFM was WAY more expensive then RAP as they had the LE stuff there.

There were a couple smaller vendors and stuff, and aboput half way through CFM, someone from the vendor area started the price wars by yelling $10 corals, then an hour later, it was $5 corals...

That was pretty cool.

It was about 1/4 the area of RAP though, or less

well, without getting into trouble I guess we can not mention the name of this other event until that event chooses to pay the appropriate fees, which I am hopeful that they do, as I think RC was largely responsible for getting the word out. (Not that they did anything, but they have the website that has teh exposure and is available toteh majority of users, LUCKY THEM)

But the event sounds cool, and from a hobbyist / consumer point of view, I hope we have events every month... This is truly theessence of competition. Us hobbyist will benefit from the retailers and mfg trying to get the word out and thier proudcts or course.

Now whether the vendors and mfgs think or wantus to have too many events maybe the issue..

I am not sure if SCMAS is or has the ability to do RAP 2008 again, but I look forward to both events,, (btw, I wonder if we will be able to say or use the word RAP for much longer too, as it seems they are both talking about the same type of event, and should follow and be held to teh same rules and requirements)

Let us know about what we can expect at this other event. Anything different?

coral farmer market. a smaller event but after the crowds die down this is where to get ones corals. This event keeps growing and growing. if one can keep up with local frag trends and prices you can get good deals. if you get sucked into the hmm the latest holy grail chalice or acro be sure to throw down some money. in my opinion the bay area one was way better atmosphere.

RAP was an SCMAS club organized and funded event, with the SCMAS president leading most of the coordination and organization, and SCMAS seeking non-profit status, with intent of putting proceeds back into SCMAS.

RC was very generous in allowing SCMAS to promote RAP, and as a SCMAS member, I thank RC.

Kevin's show is a solo, for-profit venture, and is not affiliated with SCMAS in any shape or form.
I wish this event sucess and encourage all to look into attending. I understand it will have a more industry focus, but will probably still include coral retailers. Get in touch with Kevin for details.

I thank RC also, but I also bet RC is figuring a way to close that loop hole, if will net them $50 or more...

But like others have said in here and other threads, it is the vendors that pay for this as part of a cost of doing business.

If advertising on RC or anywhere else is productive enough to justify the cost of the adverstising fees, it is a good thing,a nd I would still thank RC or whoever for not charging MORE..

I totally disagree. When you have a lot of events you dilute the value of each event. What's so special about an event when there'll be another one a month or so later?

IMO it's better to concentrate resources to make the semi/bi annual events all they can be. Give people not only value in the product/merchandise but also do the hobby a favor by EDUCATING people and trying to emphasize the responsibilities we have as stewards of the planet...

*hugs tree*

And, oh, even porn stars get tired of s3x... There CAN be too much of a good thing...

There can never be enough frag swaps.

But for major events like R.A.P that could potentially become a major convention/exposition for the hobby in the future, I can't see it happening more than twice a year.

... I'm talking about Southern California, of course.
