Skimmer
I just plumbed a new, well new to me, skimmer tonight. It is the type that has a water feed with a recirculating pump. The feed is just the water being processed. It can be from 5gph - ???gph. How many (total water volume) per hr should go through the skimmer? For instance I have ~350 gallons. Should I process the volume once an hour or more?

A water pump to supply seawater to the skimmer. A Fluval or
Eheim cannister filter will do the job, as will just about any water pump designed for seawater use (Quiet One, Little Giant, Iwaki, etc). A power head is not recommended for the POWER PRO. Last edited by Pmolan; 12/22/2007 at 11:21 PM. |

OK with 350 gallons of system. I would run 1 to 1.5 that amount through the skimmer. 350 to 525 GPH

There is no reason to run any more than 500 GPH through it. As the bubbles go from the bottom of the skimmer body to the top, the proteins attach themselves to them. If there's too much waterflow, won't the bubbles detach from the proteins?
