anyone have a splendid dotty back or flasher wrasse?
I'm debating getting a splendid dottyback (psuedochromis) and a flasher wrasse, either carpenters or mccoskers.
Anyone with actual experience keeping these have any problems with these fish? My concerns are aggression toward other peaceful tank mates. Jumpers? Hardiness? Any info on these 3 types of fish are appreciated. Thanks. Also any other recommendations? I have a 50 gallon reef tank with a OC clown, Tangaroa Goby, and a cleaner shrimp. Thanks. |

In general flasher wrasses are very peaceful. However they are not compatible with dotybacks who are likely to bully/kill them.

ok good to know before I placed an order on one. I currently have a coral beauty, a OC clown, and a tangaroa goby.
I'm looking for 2 more fish in the future. Hopefully peaceful and not a complete terror. Jumping is a concern as I have an open top 50 gallon. Carpenters wrasse? Yellow Coris Wrasse? McCoskers Wrasse? Lyretail Anthias? Any opinions on which? Please state why. Thanks =) |

Go with the anthias as the wrasses will jump sooner or later.

I have and love an Eight Line Flasher Wrasse (from the Red Sea).
Great fish eats frozen mysis ( and anything else). I wouldn't recommend open top. Mine jumped into my overflow in the first month.

Isn't the splendid dottyback supposed to be mellow?

You could try bartletts, they don't require as much room as some.

I've also looked at them in the past, but decided to not risk it.

i have a splendid dotty back and flasher wrasse, the flasher was harassed by the dottyback. I do like the dottyback he is very hardy and works well w/ my pair of clowns.
