POssible corals for 1.6g pico.

I have a 1.6 gallon pico reef that houses a Very small royal gramma,a peppermint shrimp,a small urchin and lots of micro brittle stars. This tank is going in a fish show and I have 18 watts of pc lighting and a small hang on filter(36gph I think.).The tank has about 1lb of LR.I took every thing from a 55g established (5-7ish months)reef. What would be a good coral for it.And howdo I get a ricordia mushroom to detach itself from some live rock. The Ricordia is in the 55g.And I would like to put it in the PIco reef but i dont want to hurt it.Is there is anything else that I could do to improve my reef please tell me.

To get a mushroom off a rock all that you have to do is put your fingers under it and pop it up. I have had great success with that. But i dont think it is a good idea to put coral in a tank so small.

Its fine to put coral in a reef that small, expecially zoos and rics. But the fish is a bad Idea, expcially if you are showing it off to people. I say load it with hardy corals, and people will be just as impressed, then maybe add sexy shrimp if you really need something moving around.

Why bother posting that statment? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all I think it sounds like a cool project. I don't know much about corals, but good luck anyways and don't listen to rude people

maybe a euphellia (sp?.. frogspawn or torch) frag or a candycane? these are small, cheap and relatively hardy.

If you are anywhere near Sacramento, I've got a FS that I can frag between 2-5 heads at say $5/head..it's the green with pick/purple tips... I feel bad for my comment yesterday. I didn't mean to be rude, I was haveing a bad day at work. And I keep seeing these nano's getting smaller and smaller. To where the only way I see to keep the system healthy is to be doing like 100% weekly water changes (which is fine I guess if you are already makeing up the water for a larger tank). Which would be way too much work for me to even consider. Even that 2.5g gal of Melev's seems like way too much of a headache. I haven't read all of that thread yet, but he's doing 200% water changes on that thing at times. I think if you keep your's fishless and shrimpless you will stand a better chance of not haveing to do as much maintainece as he is finding he has to do.

edit: sry didn't see your location in your Icon. I do now..

I agree duec taking out the fish and shrimp is going to make you're life sooooo much easier. Not only that but a gamma deserves a much larger tank.

I have been running my .5 gallon pico, for about 9 months, and it has been fairly easy. I have almost crashed it a few times, from just giving the corals too much food, I couldnt imagine trying to keep a fish fed in a pico. I try do a 50% to 75% weekly water change. But I have skiped a few with no problems

Upload you photos to photobucket.com and post the links the give you

Bobalouy,
Tell us more about your tank. What's in there? How long has it been up? Where do you keep such a small tank?

That is an awesome little setup!
