True Percula or Not?

I would like to find out if what was sold to me 8 months ago as wild caught True Perculas are actually, well True Perculas.

I have been told by more folks than not who have seen them that they are, but recently there has been an individual who claims that they are not True Perculas and are in fact, False Perculas (osellaris).

As soon as I was told that these were not true percs, I started looking on-line and found a few articles that cover this subject (aparently it is a popular one). All of the articles that I found pointed to the fact that mine were a pair of True Percs, but I really want to get some CMAS feedback.

The links to the articles include some photos of the different clown fish. My clowns look exactly like the example of True Percula. Links to both the articles and pics of my clowns below:

http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/clo.../blpercula.htm

Pics of my clowns (with 10 dorsal fin spines) located here:

http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...uarium/014.jpg

http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...uarium/011.jpg

Those two were without flash on and the following are two with the camera flash activated:

All constructive comments are being sought.

Thanks to all in advance!

its hard to appreciate much detail in the photos without flash, because the fish are lit with backlight, which makes the background bright and the fish somewhat dark. its kind of like shooting a photograph of someone standing before a sunset, and you get a nice sunset and a silhouette of the person. maybe if you could get photos with flash that have the light shining on them from behind you, instead of from behind them, it would be easier to see their coloration, spines, etc.

only one of the flash photos shows good dorsal spines - one of them is obscured by a rock.

i'm not trying to complain, i know how hard it is to get good photos.

i think that the black bands look dark enough / broad enough to be true percs if they are young. how old are your fish? if they're true percs the dark bands should broaden with age.

Those are A. ocellaris. And don't go by this pic...http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/msu...boryckclow.htm , it's an ocellaris as well, not an A. percula.

Kind of looks like 11 spines....

Regardless of some pics that may suggest true percula, it looks like a nice, wild-caught, ocellaris. IMO.

Just enjoy them.

Proper identification.

Its like saying you have a Dodge Road Runner. When it is a Plymouth Road Runner. No Mopar fans? Fine.

Its like saying you have a Mercury Mustang..... Bad analogy again?

How about...

Its like saying you have a mandarin goby or a scooter blenny.....

I enjoy knowing what I am talking about. If people ask what I have, I want to be able to tell them the correct answer.

Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power.

p.s. All too often do ocellaris get sold as perculas. Which is likely the case in this situation. Happy Reefing.

I should have looked at the pics with the flash.
I could be wrong again but I was wondering, will percs host a carpet anemone, I didn't think they would?

The most common natural host for percs is S.gigantea.

What was a superbee?

Barracuda was dodge, right?

I would want to know if I got burnt or not. Once that has been established, I agree. Enjoy those beautiful fish!

Just from years of my dad pushing them down my throat... LOL

Although I'm a ford guy, I can honestly appreciate most cars and the amount of time money and work that some people put into them....

Yeah, when someone pushes something on me, I have a tendency to want the oposite.

Any car or truck that can do a good burnie or a wheelie is cool in my book.
