Crocea Clam

I have grown a blue crocea clam from about a 2" size to a 6" size over the past year. I was looking at it the other day and its mantle has one spot where the pigments look pink/fresh colored instead of blue with a black background. I'm not sure if this is bad or not, because this is my first clam and it has not had any problems in the past. My best guess is that its mantle is extended to the point where the pigments are stretched. Is this possible or do you think that it is something else? On a side note, I just recently placed a baby maxima about 4 inches away from it, not sure if that will affect anything. Should I be worrying about this spot or is this something normal?

Here is a link to the pic. it came out a little blurry but you can see the pink spot and the baby maxima.

it just bleaching in that area because of how the mantle folds and blocks the light from that part of the mantle. if a certain part of the mantle isn't getting light there is no reason for the clam to put zoox in it. i dont think its anything to worry about but if you want it to color up place the clam so the whole mantle receives light.

You did not mention what kind of lighting and how old your bulbs are

It is under a 48" outer orbit setup with two 150w 10,000k halides and two 130w dual actinics (which are burnt out at the moment). The halides are at least 1yr old. But i have a sebae anemone, horn coral, mushrooms, and a maxima under the same light with no problems, so i do not suspect lighting to be an issue. I did recently move the clam out of my old 55g setup into the 72g oceanic. In the old tank the clam had a rock to support itself with, this time it is just in the sand and is tilted slightly.

I think 150w mh lights tend to drastically loose thier intensity after about 10 months. You may want to start thinking of replaceing them soon.
