Nope, I don't think either of them are what I am looking for. I think the article had a chart of proper dosage for your tank.

DId any one download the article?

Well, I'm gradually taking out my biowheel filter from the tank. I want to do it over 7 days piece by piece so as not to shock the system.

Do you all recommend I get a NEW type of filter thats more advanced or just forget about having a filter altogether??

So far the Vitamin C has caused little change in the tank, but as I stated earlier I am also upping that dose very slowly so as not to freak out my tank.

Any help would be appreciated.

The only filtration you need on a SW tank is LR/LS & a good protein skimmer.

Question then,

Today when I put in my does of Calcium, the white powder lingered a lot longer inthe water....like 3 hours. Is that normal for you guys? My flow is pretty good in there, but I have a 29 gallon.

I do have good LR/LS and a decent protein skimmer

this does not sound like a filtration issue...this sounds like your calcium supplement precipitated out of solution...this usually means your Magnesium is painfully low...or that your calcium is way too high, and beyond the saturation levels of the tanks water...

what are you parameters at? i would verify them with a second set of tests..or a LFS...

hold off on supplements and stabilize your water...water change is definately in order...check your fresh salt water too as this may be what is making your levels out...

For what is worth, the way calculating the dose is described in that article does not seem correct to me.

Parts per million are equivalent to milligrams per liter in other words you need to multiply the PPM by the volume in Liters not gallons.
So if your tank is 90 gallons and you want 30 PPM as described in the example you shall need:

90 gals x 3.7856 Liters per gal x 30 PPM = 10,221 milligrams not 2,700 as mentioned in the article.

Having said that, assuming Thiel used his calculation for the determination of his dosing I suggest you continue making the mistake he did, otherwise you may overdose.

well, then we are all under dosing with C and maybe that is why puffer kept saying the more the better. I have been doing 5000 mg, on about 80gl, and I will step it up. I am not really too worried about over dosing. thanks for the info

No thats not normal at all. Did you put the powder straight into the tank? You are supposed to be mixing/diluting it with RO water BEFORE it goes into the tank.

If you diluted the solution the suggestions given above are very good ones, also take a close look at your pH, if it is in the 8.5 range or higher then that could also be the problem.

I dump 1tsp straight Pedlow into my sump, in the 1st chamber, where the water is most aggitated. I have about 3" of rubble in there too. Same thing w/dosing alk but I use the DIY method & dose 50mg/day.

Is anyone dosing their Vit C 1/2 doses 2x/day? I know it doesn't stay in the human body & figured dosing 2x would be better than 1.

I was and just switched to once a day as of yesterday. I did bump it up 1500mg to 6500mg and I noticed no difference. I will post pics of my tank when my buddy takes them tomorrow or Monday. I dose the two part so I do not dose straight pelladow. I should mention that the increase did nothing with the PH- but stay the same, according to my MI PH thingy.

Plus has not been determined from the 5000 to 6500mg. As far as a - there has been any and there has been no effect from dosing once per day to two. It is also too early to tell

Alright, I'm terrible at math. How much should I be adding with a 100g system (that's of water)? I was really just guessing at 4000mg, until I came across that article.

According to the article:

Vit C mg= Gallons of H2O * Desired PPM

So if you want 30 PPM and you have 100 gal of water, you should be adding 3000 mg of Vit C.

According to Thiel that will be 40 PPM although in chemistry that actually is 10.7 PPM or 10.7 milligrams per liter by weight.

I do not understand the question.
You mentioned you are adding 4000 mg of vitamin C to your 100 gal system and I said that acording to Thiel that is 40 PPM in your system and I say that the correct chemical calculation amount is 10.7 PPM not 40 PPM.

If Thiel used his calculation to determine the dose, even if wrong I recommend you to use his table.
In other words if you want 50 "Thiel PPMs" add 5000 mg If you want 20 "Thiel PPMs" add 2000 mg and so on.
