Is a denitrator just a fluid bed filter with media?

Do i need to buy a denitrator or can i use a fluid bed filter with media? i have a spare fluid bed filter so do i need to spend a couple hundred $ on the denitrator. i know i need slow flow. what media is good? seachem denitrate? or sulphur based stuff. how long does the media usually last and how much would i need for a 110G tank?

thanks

There are lots of threads on DIY denitrator systems. A coil of tubing will do the job. The filter needs to create a dark anaerobic environment. Slow flow is the key.

I don't know what your reactor is like, so I can't comment much, but it should be okay for the SeaChem media, which is pretty much just artificial live rock.
