I hugged a tree once. It was the only way the ground would stop moving.

Oooooooooh ok. Then if I want to be a tree hugger does that mean I have to believe humans are causing global warming? Or could I be off the hook?

Could I love nature and prefer not to harm it, but take a que sera sera attitude?

Yeah!

There are different forms of tree huggers, it's usually not a compliment when someone says it. But then this is the lounge, you never know in here if anyone is kidding or not.

Treehugger comes from the 60's
protestors would hug trees...or chain them selves to them when lumbermen were trying to clear a forest.

I've seen your "my space's", an "Explorative Hippie Chic" would be a better discriptive definition if 'they" must! Besides, "Tree Huggers" would be the last one's on earth to keep a marine biotope. TinMan

One if my uncles has crossed into super tree-hugger. He lives out on the west coast and we all went to Minnesota 2 weeks ago for Grandpa's 90th b-day. He stopped mixing me drinks when it was discovered I had a salt water tank. Even though all our stuff is aquacultured and tank raised we are still "raping the coral reefs" and "distroying the oceans". He remained polite, but very distant and curt with me.

I'm an environmental engineer who owns a chain saw. Does that make me a confused tree hugger?

No. Being a tree-hugger requires a more proactive approach to things.
However, there are some who probably would label you as a tree-hugger for not wanting to actively harm nature.

As someone who would be considered by most (myself included, and proudly) to be a tree-hugger, and who keeps a marine biotope, I would have to disagree.
