Downgrading...to a smaller tank?

I really wish I had enough cash to invest in my 75 gallon, but I'm starting to realize the amount of money it would take to make it look amazing.

Would it even be feasible to downgrade to a smaller tank so I can make it look it's best? The only problem is that I have a yellow tang and I don't know what I'd do with him.

Is it the cost of the equipment or the livestock that has you worried?
The equipment can be a killer....
Livestock on the other hand can be grown and traded quite easily.
It's pretty satisfying starting off with a tiny little fish or frag and watching it grow. Once it's big enough you can frag/swap for other things to fill up your tank...

If your anything like me you'll be over the small tank in a couple of months and want the big one back again!

Rich.

I have a 29g and love it. I even recently moved the tank downstairs and had the opportunity to upgrade to a 75g tank and stand at that time but decided I was already set up for the smaller tank and it fit perfectly in the space I had.

When I started this hobby I backed off my original plan of starting with a 75g due to the start-up expense alone. I still sort of wish I had gone with the 75g due to the increased stability and set-up/stock options. If you have the space, and the patience, I would encourage you to reconsider and try to absorb the expense of the larger tank by building it up slowly.

lol :P it's bimmer, BTW. Most people don't know that and is quite the common mistake! Beamer/beemer refers to a BMW motorcycle, not the car.

Honestly, I'd rather spend the cash I have saved up on a car since mine has 200k+ miles on it. Plus, I'm kinda in the mood to spend the money I saved up for her engagement ring on something fun for myself, so the need for a new car outweighs purchasing all my live rock atm!

I wouldn't sell the tank, anyways, so I wouldn't really GAIN anything out of switching to a smaller tank. I just wanted it to look nicer since it is rather bare atm

ahh, that's right. i forgot which one was which. anyway, I'd say that you could find ways to cut costs, especially since it sounds like you already have the tank going. need more rock? use base rock, dry rock, or make your own. lights? t5's are an economical alternative. sand? use dry sand. it will be seeded by the existing sand in your tank or a cup or two "borrowed" from a reefing friend. instead of spending all the money on a new system you can build the one you have up slowly.

(btw, get the car for sure lol)

Understand about the car. If you have to go smaller and you keep the 75g, plan for a downgrade that will allow you to use the smaller tank as a sump/fuge should you go back to bigger tank someday! Good luck!
