I had a fire that my wife doesn't know about. That's when I learned that cheap power strips are no bargain!

The mistake started with "wouldn't an aquarium look good there?"

An aquarium is a poor impulse purchase.

Not sure if these are sins or jsut stupidity.

1. have been topping off with saltwater, needless to say my salinity skyrocketed.
2. Was to lazy to drill a holr in my return line to stop reverse siphon, turned the pump off just two days ago went to smoke and girfriend came running to find me screaming. I lost about 70 gallons on the floor fans are still going.
3. took my return pump and threw it in a empty bucket that i had got salt in to mix new salt water. Went off like old faithfull and shot water all over the ceiling.
4. decided to re build my stand with my 100 gallon full, not sure how my tank didnt break in half.

Hulley - Thanks for the idea on the Damsel...I'll place him in the sump then I'll not feel as guilty as flushing him. I was going to drop him into the Gulf of Mexico but got scrutinized. There are definitly worse things out there

Forgive me father for I have sinned....

1) I used an undergravel filter with crushed coral
2) I purchased a wet/dry at the advise of my LFS
3) Had a party & my drunk friends fed my triggers, snappers, and eel boiled shrimp just to watch them feed. Night night fishys
4) Used tap water for the last 10 yrs...Now I know why my tank was always covered in algae!

I think that sums it up

I never acclimate like people advise. Has never made a difference.

I do not quarantine. I could, I just do not believe in it.

I have never used a "hospital" tank. I hate hospitals and so do my fish

I tried to fish for my flame angel once. I got skunked

I love this thread!!
I didn't tell my girlfriend that I bought a tank instead of paying for a summer symester. The reason I"m not graduating this symester is because I didn't take 2 summer classes.

I bought a Skilter cause I thought a filter and a protein skimmer in one was a good deal! I never use gloves, and I overfeed often.

Boy this list could go on and on for me.

One that sticks out is foregoing a $20 float valve for my top off reservoir to save a few bucks. I ended up with about 30gal of water on my brand new living room carpet.

I went on a diving vacation to the Philippines and let my father in law in charge of feeding and top offs. I left Seven 5 gallons of RO water for off. He used my tap water for top off for 3 weeks omg

Well, for the 12 plus years that I've been doing this, these are my sins:

- I have been using tap water for top off and salt mix and never bothered to buy a ro/di unit
- I'm too lazy to do water change. My last 20 gal salt mix lasted 3 years
- I have been keeping a yellow and a hippo tang for almost 4 years in my 20 gallon
- The only parameter that I check regularly is salinity; all my test kits expired in 1996
- And last but not least, before I got married, I used to always use the line "I need to feed my corals" in the middle of a date so I could take her home and get laid

There, I've said it!

BTW, that "line" always worked!

I recently put a baby molly in a 20g long to help cycle the tank. I left the intake screen off of the biowheel powerfilter and when I went tot he bathroom, came back out, found little bitty bits of molley everywhere.

I never test my parameters, except maybe salinity once in a blue moon.

I've uhh... understated the worth of my fishy assets to my wife... by oh... probably 3-4k.

I've cycled with damsels *ducks*

LMAO!!!!!

My most recent, which is a great way to start the SW *cough* hobby:

Taking in my friend's SW setup because she has no time to take care of it, research, or even to give a "hoot", or to even look at the tank in over 2 weeks.

Yeah, I have no real SW experience...

Have lied...yes out and out lied about the amount of money I have spent on our 3 systems......He still believes I set up the 125 gallon with 110 gallon fuge for about $2500......That is only a few K off...the 92 gallon appeared one summer afternoon during my lunch hour....when he was at work. The 150 was in storage empty ......and then in one afternoon my son and I set that up....and people say crack is addictive!

- My first 55 gal had an UGF, HOB carbon filter, and CC. No flow what so ever.
- I ran a hose from the spicket outside for water changes.
- I added salt directly into the tank.
- I cycled with a Domino. (BTW, only fish to survive the entire time I had the tank)
- Poured copped into tank with inverts.
- Fed Lionfish goldfish...it died.
- Kept Tangs...till they died.
- Totally disregarded aggressive fish warnings. I thought they would all get along. At one point, I had a lionfish, octopus, mexican dragon eel, triggerfish, and damsels all mixed with peaceful community fish. The eel and octopus fought all the time. It was like a battle royal. Eel won. In fact it ruled the tank.
- Poured fish directly into tank without acclimating.
- Placed two male Bettas in the same small bowl to watch them fight.

I forgot to add this one in my earlier post, and it's a bad one: I flushed a tomato clown because it was bullying my yellow tang. The worst part is: the tomato clown was not mine.

You and I should start a support group -

Not to try and change our ways, mind you, but just to support each other & and discuss important issues. We could give lectures like "Fish Acclimation, Ninja Style" and "Upgrade to That 450 Without Your Husband Ever Noticing"

I have a guppy tank for the sole purpose of providing live food for my trigger and hamkfish.
