Longnose Hawk?
Will it eat my shrimp and hermits?

Mine did not. I had him in with BL hermits and Cleaner Shrimp. Mine was about 3" and didn't even look at them. I believe they are far less a risk then most other hawks. Maybe they could be a problem as they get bigger.
The biggest problem with them is jumping. I had a 4" rim around my tank and it either went over the rim or through one of the 3" holes for the pipes. Just to give you a heads up. HTH |

To second falconut, mine was with a large cleaner shrimp, with no issue. I certainly wouldn't put a little tiny one in though. For the most part he left hermits alone. Every now and then he ate a small one. Mine also jumped out of the tank so be wary of jumpers.

Jay Fortay - I'd try to get something either around the rim or over the top. Both mine and my friends jumped to their death. It is very common for them and doesn't always happen in the begining. I had mine for about 3 - 4 months.

RIP for mine as well. Loved that fish, never bothered any inverts or fish. Found him dried up like a potato chip on the floor despite having most of the tank covered with glass.

At least you found your; mine lasted one day in my open top tank, and then he pulled a "David Copperfield"---vanished without a trace.

I had mine for several months and he grew to about 5". He didn't eat shrimp or any other inverts. He jumped to his death, found his mummified body behind my old 180. I want to get another one though, they are cool looking fish with alot of personality.
