Arrow How are you guys lighting your bowfront tanks?

I think my next tank will be a bowfront but I need lighting ideas. I would like MH pendants, VHOs and a canopy if possible. Pics would also be very appreciated too.

dKH=9, ok
PO4=0ppm, ideal

Ca= 480ppm, still a little high
pH= 8.2, I'd like it at 8.3
NO3= 10ppm, acceptable

Depends on what bowfront you choose. Lighting really just takes a lot of research to get to where you want it. There are some easy ways, like Corallife HQI pendant systems that will fit that but I really love VHO/Metal Halide Combo.

What dimensions are you looking at? I like a cohesive look and would try to use a canopy and mount the lights with ICECAP fixtures www.premiumaquatics.com

If you go for a bowfront tank under 30 gallons you can just get Current PC satellites and mount them over it. If over 30 gallons, get a canopy and try something more intricate. If your goal is just soft corals - PC or VHO, if Clams and soft etc. get Halides and VHO for actinic.

I just use a Custom Sea Life hood and the stands fit perfectly on the edges of the tank.

I like the 46 gallon bowfront. It's a big enough jump up from my 29 but still fits in my alloted space.

I'm wondering if I could put a 30.x" VHO in a canopy and use my two 150watt HQI pendants or maybe (3) 150watters. Can't think what diameter they are. They're in storage right now.

Your (2) 150w HQI pendants should be enough on a 46
you not talking that big of a jump in size.

on my 72b, I'm running (4) 36" VHO's
I keep mainl softies/LPS in it.

On my 92 corner, I'm running (1) 250w SE MH and (2) 55w PC
Agian, softies/LPS in that tank as well

I have 4 54W T5 HO's on my 72 bowfront and was able to fit two of these ODYSSEA Blue Moon Lunar LED,Reef,Aquarium Power Compact under the hood
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I have the 2 Odysseas on timers so they both go off at different times.

My hubby made a canopy for his 72G bowfront. It was his first attempt, so he would have made some changes to the design if he were to do it again (split the top down the middle so you can open one side or the other), but it was relatively easy. He had two MHs, two actinics and moonlights.

Sorry the pics don't include the lights, but he used them on his upgraded 120G.

If you're interested in the specs, PM me and I'll get them from him.

Good luck!

Cheryl
