i went to one of the lower quality fish stores around here because they were the only fish store that had peppermint shrimp in stock, while talking to the guy he gave me 5 bad "tips" and made numerous I.D. mistakes, this just makes me appreciate RC even more, without everyone's help i would have a tank full of rocks right now

I was at the LFS the other day and the guy sold 3 dime sized regal tangs to a guy with a 30 gallon tank.I mentioned they were going to grow and the worker said they will stay small in a small tank the bigger the tank then they'll grow bigger...sheeezzz

I have kinda a story.. I've only really had one LFS that has marine fish and he does a pretty good job of keeping corals, and live rock.. or did. When I first started going there it was inspiring to see all of the awesome species and made me feel good about spending the time to try and be a consciencious reef keeper.
Over time.. my tank got a little better.. but his store started having less and less to offer. Then one day I went in and the beautiful display tank was DEAD.. I mean.. it went from .. national geographic to septic pool. Apparently his air conditioning went out.. and he really just let things be for the most part. Even after that things started to decline.. algae was covering his tanks.. fish were dying in front of customers.. until a couple visits ago, I showed up.. and I seriously was depressed. I was already feeling kind of low that day.. but seeing all of this potential get wasted away.. it made me so depressed that I wasnt aware, but he picked up on it.. and asked me to cheer up 3 times that visit. I think I was a little aggressive in asking why things were dying.. why he didn't have some tanks with water running.. etc. Last visit I was very happy to see he is on an upswing now. The tanks looked great. He explained he did a 97% water change on the coral system because something in the water that he hadn't been able to detect was killing his different inhabitants. Apparently he had an employee topping off the coral system with water straight from his fish system which was treated with copper. Anyway, long story short, it is looking good there and hopefully he is going to get a shipment of live rock and new coral in soon. |
