It's a tough life...

Here's what my last few weeks have been like...

Items of note:

Castaway Island was AWESOME!!! All the friendly "Bula¡'s" and the warm days were awesome, the food was great (especially the pizza). The Dive Team, Waz and Elle were MOST friendly and helpful, definitely a first rate operation. The dive team was spectacular as well. Jone and Bola were with us most of the time and were just wonderful. I did manage to run myself completely out of air at 30 feet on the second day as I was getting ready to come up. I need a double tank BC apparently. Being an airhog really sucks, since you have to come up before you really want to. I got to look at my "buddy" as my spare tank...

Interestingly, the island where Tom Hanks filmed Castaway is a close neighbor and is not nearly as remote as the movie made it seem. I kept expecting to see Wilson go floating by...

If you ever get the opportunity, I strongly recommend it, Castaway was worth every penny! Their web is at http://www.castawayfiji.com/scuba.shtml.

Anyway, some pictures. Disclaimer: I didn't take all these pictures, some were taken by my wife and others by another guy on our boat. Some were also taken just snorkelling off the beach.

Beautiful! Not sure I'd like to be photographing the sharks! But what lovely pix---a few real oddities, like the tinkertoy number up on the feet. What was that one?

Beats the heck out of me! I couldn't name half the cool stuff I saw. I just kept using terms like ricordia and nudibranch to make it sound like I knew what I was doing...

The tinkertoy thing looks kind of like a cuke of some sort to me. You notice the body extends to the right and downward....

Nice pics Liberty! Sounds like a fun trip.

Is this the tinkertoy thing?

If so I don't know what it is either. Looks neato though.

He didn't come any closer than about 20 feet. It was sort of funny though that the dive leader wanted us all to settle at the bottom... around him!!!

What an amazing trip!! I would love the opportunity to dive there! Those pics are just stunning with the diversity of wild life.

First time divers can easily deplete that air. You get all excited and breathe faster and pretty soon you're out of air. Almost happened to me once. When they were training us for the certification we practiced "running out of air" in the pool. We'd dive to the bottom with a buddy and then the instructor would swim up behind us, give us the OK, and then turn off our air. No matter how much you tried you could never get a full breath before it "ran out". Really freaky feeling. But it trained us properly how to react.

I couldn't get her past thinking that something was going to swim out of the seaweed and bite her. I did get her out far enough to see some of the hundreds of blue linkia, she really got a kick out of it. She also did the SASY and played and did crafts and other activities with all the other kids. She had a blast making her little Kava bowl and her dot paintings with Rogest!

Can't wait for her to get old enough to go diving!

Oh the poor thing. Jena used to be like that. We went to Discovery Cove in Florida and they have a stingray pool where you wade through the stingrays. Tried to explain they were just as afraid of her as she was of them. Didn't work.

I like to be able to read my own threads!

I'm on such a slow internet connection this thread would take me a couple hours to load if I tried to look at the pictures.
