I don't like those Parrot fish to begin with, let alone in saltwater.

Why? Because there are people in this world who will actually pay $8,888 for them. It's the same reason you pay $450 for $75 worth of acrylic tubes, or $300 for a $30 plastic lighting hood.

I agree with you Silencer, it is because they can make money on it, and also because people are crazy enough to pay for it.

Well, why do you think people are calling any purple zoos with a hint of green, "Purple People Eaters", and naming their coral "Limited Editions" or "Leng Sy so-and-so". It's an easy way to sell something.
The genreal public will buy anything if you make it sound pretty, easy, or 'cool'.
There's no one there to stop anyone from doing these things. Places like this, RC, can help, but people have to be willing to jump off the bandwagon.
That's not human nature.

I'm sorry but there aren't many freshwater fish that are pretty. And parrots are just plain ugly.

There is already a natural cichlid species that lives in both brackish and saltwater. Called the Mayan cichlid, it has orange and black stripes in brackish water and the orange intensifies toward red when the salinity increases. I have some of them and they look a lot prettier and more normal than "parrots".
