aquacultured livestock

Please post some good sites / suppliers for aquacultured fish, corals, and other inverts (esp anenomes) (and LR too). I felt so guilty after buying my LR for a 29 gal setup (which I will keep forever now) that I can't even think about buying coral or anenomes from a LFS without a guarantee about its origin. Due to a recent tank-holiday-tragedy I will also need to restock my poor fishies So post away!! thanks!

Many of the big online retailers either specialize in bred or raised animals. InlandAquatics, ClownFishDirect, LiveAquaria for a few have specific sections devoted to tank raised/captive bred fish. Others (such as MarineDeportLive) note them on the individual listing.

As to corals, many/most are available as frags from existing colonies, many online vendors advertising multiple generations of captive propagation.

Anemones, on the other hand, I don't of anyone actually commercially culturing them on a predicatable basis...they are a bit of a different problem. However, there are frequently posts in the local forums (and this one) of people/LFSs with anemone divisions available for sale. Given the lifespam of most harvested anemones sold into the retail channel, getting a split from a captive one seems to be the only responsible way to go. (Having killed my share of anemones back in the undergravel 80s, I have no immediate plans to add any now that I'm reefing...)

Our local reef club has a listing of aquaculture companies on their web page:

I wouldn't feel too guilty about the live rock. Last time I was in the Red Sea I saw several thousands of tons of what we could call live rock being used to make a breakwater and a bunch more tons being dumped at building sites. Make your purchase rather trivial, especially as you probably paid more than they did for a lorrload.

From this thread. I'd search the Vendor Experiences forum under `frags' and I'd bet you'd get a lot more. I'd always suggest searching on a new vendor there before ordering.
Here's the old thread:
