concrete blocks?

does anyone know if concrete blocks safe in a reef aquarium? the guys at the florida aquarium use them as base rock in the big reef next to the touch tank but ive never heard of anyone else using them in their home aquariums....
it would be nice if it was safe because that would save me alot of money on base rock.

I am pretty sure concrete is one of the main ingredients in home-made rock for reefs.

I'm not sure if there is a cure time needed for pre-made blocks though......

the biggest issue is unknown additives and release agents.

Concrete block is not made with the idea that it will be in aquariums, so they are not as caring what goes into them.

you can make your own out of items that you can control, cure them in a swimming pool is a great way, put them in for a couple months and they are ready to go. Making your own rock is easy, fun and inexpensive.

I had a friend in New Orleans that had an 800 gallon with live rock stacked on plastic milk crates. The crates were black, and could only be seen from the back of the tank.
