I just started cooking 2 rocks that got covered with the stuff... Personally, I would keep it on one rock far away from anything if you keep it at all.

I also agree, look at the pic here, they will try and take over anything they can. When I move my tank I will place them alone.

see thats what i mean they look so nice on that rock. another thing there is a tank sumwhere in public aquarium that has the substrate covered in them to make a carpet of gsp. how do they keep them low on the sand?
i have a juwel 180 with a corner filter, if they grew on that would they be easy to get off when the time came as it is smooth except for coraaline? (it joins on top live rock near the base)

To get a carpet of GSp's just place the rock there on, on the sand. They will eventually grow over the sand and anything else in there path. They can be a pain to get off as the purple mat almost makes itself one with what they are on. If they were on glass/sand that would be easy, but rockwork is another story.

If xenia and gsp had a race to gain ground, who would win?
I'd put my money on xenia.

So do you reccomend GSP as something to stay away from?

I like GSP, and I like xenia too. You just to really keep an eye on it and keep it from getting out of control.

I love GSP! It's one of the nicest colored easy-to-keep corals. But yes, it spreads like wildfire!

You can cut 1.the expanding parts with a razorblade, or 2. put smaller, movable rubble in places that are in line with the GSP's spreading direction. When it spreads onto the rubble, razorblade it off (and mail to me...JK).

Do GPSs function in the same way xenia does? My xenia grows very slowly now, as does my chaetomorpha, but when I first got them both, they grew like weeds. I'm assuming that they've used up all the nutrients, which is why they aren't growing as fast anymore. Will GSPs grow slowly in my tank too then?

the way I have done it is to place it in a area way from verything elese and when it gets too big, take the rock out and trade it, get a new rock and just repeat the cycle

Great idea! I used a dead Gorgonian as a framework for GSP to spread on.
