The tank is looking great Steve!! Haven't seen you around for a while. Good to see that most everything made the transition, I didn't see the red carpet though, what happened?

Steve, great tank! I too am fond of deep tanks, or should I say, tanks with depth. Can you give some water parameters, etc.?
Thanks,
Mark

What about a shot of the entire tank from the front. I feel the need to drool over your creation.

Mike

BTW...love the canyon in the aquascape

The first time I saw pics of the old 500 your reef has been one of my motivations to develope a larger system...and now you have improved what was in my mind the perfect reef!

I'm not only motivated to develope a large reef for myself...I'm also motivated to take a trip to the great Northwest just in the hope of seeing that beast in person!!!!

Very nice as always! So how do you like the new deep look? Is it frustrating not seeing a fish for a week? Does this look make a big difference to your 500g setup? Any regrets? Just curious as you're one of the first to try this new setup.

Thanks everyone... now, to answer a few of those comments out there.

Kyle... I lost both my longtime carpets the week before I made the switch. I attribute their demise to the fumes/dust that I unavoidably created during the construction in getting ready for the new tank. I found a blue and purple carpet replacement last week...they are both doing great.

Ali... I will be coming down the Mon- Fri of Thanksgiving. I'll shoot you a PM. I think you're in the Buena Park area. I would love to stop by one evening.

Water parameters.... Alk 12dkh...pH... 8.2 -8.4.... temp ...78 calcium...440 ...NO3 ...undetectable

Invincible... I really like the deep look. It is unique to have more depth than width in an aquarium. The aquascaping has been more difficult than I anticipated. It's hard to not block things in the back and eliminate the depth perception. As I aquascaped, I also tried to taper the rockwork... getting more narrow as you get further back... to force the perpective of even more depth. The other thing that I noticed is that it is hard to fully do justice in photos. I have several channels/overhangs/ledges that just don't show up well in photos. The futher I pull back, the more details that make the aquascaping unique get lost. I will say this though, the motion of the fish seems so much more natural now that they have freedom of roaming in all directions. It's kind of fun watching a fish in the back swimming at you down that long channel.

After picking myself up off the floor from seeing your tank, I just looked at the pictures.

I am setting a new tank for my office and would love to pick your brain if you are open to it.

I love the valley you have created, it is so natural looking and is that a deep blue acro that I saw?

Simply a gorgeous tank.

Fantastic indeed Steve! Wow.. I agree, we need more depth in our tanks! Now, if only I could back into the garage.

Krikey!

I've been to several public aquariums whose reef tanks were nowhere near as impressive as yours!!

I've seen some humongous tanks on this site, but the level of consideration you give to placement and naturalism makes your tank a standout.

Bravo Freakin' Zulu

Great Job Steve!

I have an in the wall tank that I am planning to upgrade to a much larger deep tank as well. Since the new tank has to go in the same spot as the old one, I would be interested to hear the logistics of how you made the transition. Did you move the animals off site for a while during construction? How long were you "between" tanks? I'd like to get my transition completely planned out before I begin to minimize the stress on the animals.

Thanks,
Jay

Hi Steve,
Excellent job! I know how much work it takes to pull off what you did. Did you buy the carpets locally?

Best regards,
Kevin

Even on the pictures it's the best looking tank l've ever seen! What might it be to see it "live"? I'm going to check out airfares to Portland now

Seriously, for the first time EVER I see an aquascape wich I would'n want to change a bit. Second, the colors are as bright as they can be (you sacrificed neither intensity nor color temperature of bulbs, which many big tank owners have to do in order to cut the costs down). Finally, animal selection and placement is perfect (meaning it fits my personal preferences ).

Actually, there is one more thing: you are a good photographer too. Too many times beauty IS lost on a picture. It's not the case with your pictures.

Please, post more pictures and, best of all, get a website.

Your tank IS one of a kind! Thank you.

Hard to add anything from what has already been said... How about beautiful!

If you are so inclined, I would like to see pictures of how you have the tank placed in the room as well. I am planning a larger tank (5x3x2) and having a hard time imagining how a tank with so much depth can be placed in a room without sticking out like a sore thumb.

Thanks!
