They're off to the side under 2x150 watt halides, but IME they don't care about the lighting. Dendros are azooxanthellate.

Nice! how many polyps did you start out with and what was the growth rate?
Rite now my dendro is recovering from a PH/ALK/CA swing... poor guy, I hope he survives. It has a baby nub growing from the side. |

I have 7 polyps of the coccinea, one of the arbuscula, and 3 of another I don't know the species of. I haven't had them very long though, no new polyps so far.

Do these corals have the care requirements of sun coral?

The dendros do, except they can eat a whole lot more. The duncanopsammia is photosynthetic.

SInce the dendro head are not connected to each other, do you guys have to feed every single head? I asked because I have a colony of sun coral and all the heads are connected to each other so that I dont have to feed each and every single head.

I have mine about as long as your photo's show. But how in the world do you frag this bad boy.We know folks have done it,because we wouldn't have the frags of it today. But does it flesh run all the down to the bottom of it base?It doesn't really put out long single branch per say.But I don't have the will to try the dremmel tool on it.at least not yet !Have you found out,how this thing can be cut.I got one polyp coming out the bottom of it's base.It can't grow or even feed.Because it's right in the center of the plug, which sits on the bottom.Very strange to pick it up,and see a polyp there? Any input,as to how and save way to be done? |

The person I got my frag from was very nervous when he was watching me frag one of his prized corals. I used a pair of coral cutters. They have a pair of C shaped teeth on them, designed to cut Acropora branches. The coral only had 5 or 6 heads on it. I was trying to cut it in half, but ended up with 1.5 polyps. I cut through a branch, but it did not break evenly, and split another head in half. I don't have much advise for you yet. I'll have to try to cut my piece a few times before I give out instructions.

When you made the split, did they ALL make it threw the ordeal?Being you ended up with 1 1/2 polyps on the one frag?Especially that half polyp one? Also did the main colony heal after this? |

Forgot to ask you this also.I was wondering where it branches off the main colony,is their flesh all the way to their base? Or is it just a calcium base there.I would think when you cracked threw it with those cutters, you would see what's really there for sure.

joetbs wow sounds like some awsome growth! What are you feeding it and where is it positioned in your tank?
I've had my 8 polyps since June and I think I have 9 or 10 now. Not much compared to your growth. |
