Quick Question about HotT5 lighting ???

Was told this was the one of the best lighting ways to go out there.

Was wondering if it will kill the electric bill ?

And also I can seem to really find them online.. Any good sites to order from that you know off

My LFS is giving me a price of 415$$ wanted to see if i could get it cheaper

Right now im useing coralife power compacts. will the HOT5 be a great improvement ? with out kill the electric bill

t5

Yes..the T5's pack quite a bit more output than pc's. Check out
the Grim Reefer. He seems to be a T5 guru here.

I'm sure you can find T-5 systems much cheaper here on RC.

Whats the HOT5 system? can you post a link.

Your electric bill = the amount of watts you use. (this is true for all lights T-5s, PC's, & MH's)

As for as the best lighting... Go with a good quality T-5 or MH system. Stay away from the PC's.

Check out the sponsors pages. There are many on-line vendors there that sale both T-5's & MH system's.

One piece of advice just in case you haven't run across this yet. Make sure that whatever T-5 fixture you get has 1 reflector per bulb. This makes sure that more of the light gets in the tank and isn't wasted.

I use the Constellation from Aquactinics -- it's beautiful even when sitting next to another tank with dual halides. The Grim Reefer (as mentioned above) gave me excellent advice on which bulbs to choose. What you want with T5-HO (again as stated before) are individual reflectors.

As far as money goes, it's all about the watts. Get a Kill-a-watt device or an amp clamp if you're curious.

And, for what it's worth, I think PC lighting is just fine depending upon what you plan to keep. PC lighting worked great for me with leathers, zoas, mushrooms, etc..

If you're considering new lights, do plenty of research. I've become indifferent to halides vs. T5 setups, but a lot of people really like the shimmer that halides will give you.
