Unhappy Sad Evening

IF anyone has any possible suggestions to WHY? Would be really helpfull.
My absolute favorite fish is on his way out, i will probly be humane and put him ion the freezer, to end his suffering.
My elusive but beautiful Black Finned Shrimp Goby "Elmo" is out in the open (usually only at feeding) gasping, his nostrils and his front fins have blood in them, i mean blood has come to the surface of his skin he is also acting like hes blind. I am not sure what is going on with him, i have had him alnost 2 years. And even though i would maybe see him once a week i just adored him. I am so so bummed.

Sorry to hear about elmo. I don't think nitrates would have caused this at that level. If you can see blood maybe something attacked your fish.

Why do a water change? She's running 160 gallons of water. 2 or 3 fish could die in there and it wouldn't cause any problems.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. "elmos" at peace now i had to do it i could see he was suffering.

As far as the blood, it was underneath, like a hemorrhage. No wounds to speak of, i looked him over thoroughly, he was nice and fat and great color except where the blood was.
