My rainbow Acan echinata

Picked this up from a fellow RC member earlier this week. Its settling in nicely. Had a little bit of damage on 3 of the polyps when i arrived, but seems to be minimal damage and it has not worsened at all since going in the tank. This is my first acan and now my favorite piece in the tank. Heres why

Getting a quick FWE dip

First day in the tank

I'll be getting some more pics tonight, but wanted to share!

I have something very similar. I love these peices. They are very fast to recover. My large torch fell and landed on mine. Really messed up about half the coral. in 2 weeks time, it was totaly healed and looking as good as ever.

Excellent, thanks for the info. Being my first acan i wasn't sure what kind of recovery time i was looking at.

This has quickly become my favorite piece. In fact since i'm moving in a month i'll be removing all the SPS from this tank to make room for more of them!! Plus then i get a dedicated SPS tank.

Steve - This was the entire colony, so the guy doesn't have any frags of it. I've already got a list of requested frags in my club after only 4 days! I'd be happy to put you on the list but it might be some time before it grows enough to get more frags from it.

Nizmo350Z - I love that bluish color too! The green is really vibrant as well.

Can do Lisa!! It might be sometime though. I love the colors on it too. The damaged head has grown a new mouth and the greens and orange are really starting to come out and pop. The colors are much more vivid in just the last few days. The damaged polyps is growing back with a lot of that teal/blue color. I'll get a few more pics to put up tonight.

BTW long time no see, hows the tank doing? Ever get those pics for me?????

they do recover very fast, but seem to be a fairly slow grower. Ive had mine for some time now ( bout 5 or 6 months ) and havent really noticed an increase in size at all.

i have a question about this coral. i recieved a rainbow acan frag not long ago with just 3 heads. Now it is appox 8. it has been a very fast grower, but now it has completely coverd the small rock that it is on. should i glue it to another rock so that it will continue to grow?

Yes, put another peice of rock next to it to spread. If you want to frag it, I wouldn't glue the rocks together. If you want a large colony, then go ahead and glue the rocks together.

Acans are notorious for spreading quickly, as you may already know, so put a rock next to it so it can keep spreading.

Thanks for the info. I put a small frag disc under one side of the colony that had grown polyps all the way to the sand. Hopefully they will grow onto the disc and make it easy to frag in the future!
