High PH (kind of urgent)

Someone was in my house and for some unexplained reason the skimmer was on it's side and the skimmate spilled all over my 29g tank.

Put most of the water in some buckets, along with about 20 lbs of LR, an anemone and two fish.

Took the fish tank to the bath tub and cleaned it thoroughly (water was filthy).

Before putting the water back in the tank, I did some tests.

PH was 8.8!
Amonia was 0.5.

So, what should I do? I honestly don't know how that anemone is still alive. Besides the fact that I have some lame PC's, my water isn't the cleanest and I don't feed her properly. Trying to get rid of it but no one wants it!

Thx.

For the amonia problem I would definitely use some Amquel.

The PH could probably be adjusted with some marine buffer, pre-mixed before adding to the tank.

But, if the water is that bad now, I would probably just make up some new water ASAP and put that in the tank as well.

I'm still fairly new, so hopefully somene with more experience will chime in. But, if not, that would be my safest bet.

How much skimmate was this?
IME the skimmate would have done nothing.
It most likely would have been skimmed out again in 4-5 hrs.
I have no idea why your PH would be that high, but that is the least of your problems at this point.
You seriously need to do some reading about SW hobby.
Also, find a home if you can for the Yellow Tang.It really needs a much larger tank than a 29 gallon. That is probably one of the reasons your tank is "filthy".

I wouldn't worry about the pH just yet. Some water changes or seltzer water would help lower it, if animals are showing signs of trouble. The ammonia is a big issue, and I would try the Amquel and water changes for that.
