Do you battle cyano?

If you had cyano and got rid of it, what did you do to correct it?

Little more water flow, fewer nutrients, and cleaning crew. Basically, I think I starved it out.

Cyano had taken over EVERYTHING in my tank. EVERYTHING!!
Sand rocks pumps ALL was Cyano's home.
3 months later, I realised it wasnt getting any better and came to these boards for help. A user named Bomber helped me adjust my skimmer optimaly. Skimmer started pulling lots of crud over the next week. I did a major water change and sucked up all the cyano off. Tank looked good... but then...
2 days later the cyano came back just as bad as it ever had been.
I let the skimmer work for the rest of the week and it kept collecting goop. I was wet skimming. I did a second water change
and another major cleanup sucking up as much cyano as I could.
Added another thing layer of sand to the DSB.
Tank looked good.... cyano did not come back. Infact the little spots that I missed where cyano was, cyano started peeling off and dying. My cleanup crew arrived later that week, some mexican hermits and ceriths. But I had already defeated this monster.
How ever now my skimmer isnt pulling anything , and I dont know why. 3 days and almost no skimmage. Cleaned the skimmer.
But there is still NO sign of cyano.

Oh and I forgot to add, I added another powerhead in the rear of the tank for more waterflow.

I don't know what exactly did it, but I'm sure it was a combination of the following:

Replaced bulbs
More Flow
Changed feeding habits
Better Skimmer

Short for cucumber. Atlantic Sea Cucumber.

I used Antired as a last resort. Haven't seen the crap since.

I used red slime remover over 18 months ago with NO return.

I have treated both my tanks when they were at about the one year mark.

I also treated someone elses tank about a month ago and that tank is still clean too.

you bet!!!
going through cyno sucking right now. put the chemi clean in on sunday, turned lights out, came home from work on monday, the water was cloudy and cyno brown color... so i did a 30% water change and restarted the skimmer. tuesday morning everthing is clear. i am anxious to go home from work today to see if it is in fact still gone as it was everywhere.
keeping my finger crossed.

First time I had cyano, I used Red Slime Remover and it was gone in 3 days. 6 months later it was back. Did small weekly water changes for a while, no help. Tried Chemi Clean - no effect at all. Well, it's really getting out of hand now.

Keep the replies coming folks.

I did many water changes, restocked my cleaning crew, cut way back on frozen food, lowered my total light time from 12 to 10 hours.

It has been gone now for 4 months my out break only laste about a month.
Someone once told me that your tank will just go through a cycle of it everynow and then.

I hope that helps

Red Slime Remover worked for me. Since then I've added a couple of small powerheads to increase water movement. I haven't had a relapse.

I used Red Slime Remover about two years ago and it eradicated the red slime. It never returned.
