How can I tell if my ballast is safe!?!
I got a great deal on two 250w metal halide ballasts and XM 10,000k bulbs. The guy I got them off of said the ballast and bulbs were compatable.
The problem is there is no markings of any sort on the ballasts to indicate if they are probe, pulse, or electronic. XM 10,000k bulbs should go with probe start balasts. The bulbs fire up no problem and seem to run fine. The ballasts have those metal cases with heat sinks. I oppened one up and the only thing that was behind the metal plate was a dark wax like substance. Does anyone know how I can tell what type of ballast I have and if it will work with my XM 10,000k? |

sorry, no pic. It looks like a typical metal type box with heat sinks.

If the case is blue then it might be a Sunlight Supply. If it is silver maybe a PFO. HTH. Both have heatsink casing.

I think I am going to try and post some pics. I am really hoping that it is probe start ballast so it works with my XM lights. If I knew what type of ballast it was I could get appropriate lights.
