Mantis diseases....

Hey!

I'm coming up with a list of common mantis diseases. I've come up with shell disease, parasitic snails, the "death curl", the fungal infections that seem to be inherent in H. californiensis, failed molts, algal growth into the shell & possibly raptorial appendage loss. Can you guys think of any others? Thanks.

Dan

cant think of any more than what you've listed atm, but id like to point out that i dont think rapt loss really counts. if anything, it's more of an indicator of something wrong... be it malnutrition, bad molt, or lack of hard shelled food, etc.

Thats why I said & maybe. I didn't think it was really a disease but some people might think it should be included. I think I have the complete list but their are other people who have been around longer and have more experience.....

I sometimes see nematode infections. You can actually see them wiggling under the cuticle. It looks like the beginning of a bad SciFi movie.

I never tried to treat it, but the animals that I have seen with visible signs of infection never successfully molted.
