Clowns hosting with Frogspawn
My pair of clowns recently decided to host with a large frogspawn in my tank. The frogspawn opens up almost fully during the day but at night is really small since the clowns spend their time rubbing against it. During the day they stay out in the water column so i don't think it is irratated at those points in time. Is this behavior going to have negative effects on the coral? is there anything i can do?

My clown has used a gonipora stokesi (sp?) as a host lol I think its got used to being hassled although it wasn't very pleased at first.

Mine in their Elegance Coral
The frogspawn should get used to it and then you've got some cool hosting going on

My clowns host in my Frogspwan also. usually the frogspawn shrinks at night anyways when the lights out. Should be fine. Just make sure they arent tearing it up.

I wish my clowns would host in my spawn or torch, they pretty much stay away from it.

Clowns are known to host in almost anything they find appealing, mushrooms, torches, elegance, etc... I even once saw a pair using a monti cap. as a host. The only problem with using corals as hosts is some corals have very sharp skeletons. Some species of torches, hammers, elegeance, etc... have a very sharp skeleton that can damage the coral tissue if irritaed by the clowns. It all depends on the corals and clowns. Cheers!!

Mine have decided to host my brain. The brain doesn't seem to mind it so much.

I had a clown once that decided it wanted to host a buch of my large fuzzy mushrooms, he could not get enough of the things. Clowns are so funny sometimes, lol maybe thats why their called clowns.

Sweet...I was happy at first since it took them about 4 months to find something to host too. They used to just stay in the bottom corner of the tank but i moved the frogspawn to that area and they hosted with it about 2 weeks later. I then moved the frogspawn to the middle of the tank and they followed it. It's kinda funny cause they attack my hand whenever i put it in the tank now. I guess its a sign that i should keep my hands out anyway. Thanks for all the responses. I'll post some pics of them in the frogspawn when i get a chance.

Mine have hosted in my frogspawn and it has not effected it at all. Assuming all your parameters in the tank are fine, the Frogspawn is pretty durable. Frogspawn usually close up at night even without the clowns.
