Ananome Tenticle Deflation
I have an anenome and a bunch of its tenticles keep deflating and shrinking to a lifeless white color. I have a good light and my water has been cycling for over 2 months and all the chemicals are proper. I've been feeding it everyday, and it seems like everytime i feed it the tenticles fill out. I heard that they only need to eat every couple days or even longer so i dont know if this would be the problem. I really want to know what the problem is so it doesnt die. Is this normal? Or what can i do to stop this from happening?
Thanks, Dallas

From your descriptions, it may be bleaching and slowly dying.
Type of anemone? Good lights meaning? Chemicals proper? More info needed here. Read the maturity thread sticky and some good books. |

Its a crispa milky anenome and my lighting is a 192 watt corallife. My ph is 8.4, the salt level is 1.022, the ammonia and nitrates are both 0. I recently just did an 18% water change to see if it would help and it hasnt. I read a large article on it, and it basically said to just keep an eye on it. I just wanted to know if anyone here has experienced this same thing.

My bubble tip did the same thing when I got them. I spot feed them and my 2 plates mysis every 3 days and then just feed the water with Kents Micro vert on the off days. 1 anenome split and now all 3 are doing good. When the tenticles turned white and seemed to shrivel I would feed them, that was almost daily. I also started adding Trace elements. They seem to be doing good. Just stick to it and good luck

Most anemones require high lighting, quadricolor requiring the least but still best kept under MH. IMO, your lights are not sufficient.
It could be that your anemone is bleaching from low light or tank stability. My suggestion to read the maturity thread is because it is utmost important to keep them alive. Water changes reduces nutrients, replenish trace elements, and among other good things, but it doesn't make the tank more mature. |

Thanks for the reply's. I was thinking... could it have anything to do with the temperature of the water? The light usually heats the water up to around 84F and i read that they like the water a couple degree's colder.

Yes. Fluctuating temps is detrimental for all corals and inverts. You can get a fan to blow over the water when lights are on. Still, you'll eventually need more lighting for the crispa.
