glass tank weight?

i'm picking up my new glass 240g tomorrow...does anybody have any idea how much it will weigh dry? its 96x24x25. thanks!

good luck, I just did my 220, its 72 x 24 x 30, almost killed 3 guys to get it downstairs and it took 2 strong guys to lift it onto stand, I would say close to 400 lbs. a 180 is about 340 lbs.

ok, so me and my best friend, angie, and my 11 YO son should be able to handle it, no problem, right? i figured, she could get in the truck and toss it down to me. hahaha!

I have moved my 180 with 2 of us, but it was a simple move and it was NOT EASY! For a 240, I would think four people, unless they are Worlds Strongest Man contestants.

I would plan on at least 4 people. 6 would probably be better.

Glass cages told me 1200 lbs for a 300, 96x24x30.
I'm not sure if that was just the tank or the skids, and other shipping stuff.

my guess would be about 300-350 lbs. what's the thickness of the glass?

Your going to be looking at close to 500 lbs and the full weight will be well over 2000lbs. BE CAREFUL!! Mike/KD9RG

I just moved in a new 220 gallon. When I say I, I mean, hired a moving company to move it. It cost 100 bucks and they are fully insured unlike the three beer drinking buddies I was going to have help. If dropped the movers are responsible. It's probably worth the extra hundred for what you paid for the tank. Make sure the moving company knows the tank is empty, they are more likely to accept the job.

i just got home with the new baby...it will probably be living in the truck for a little while...until we get the stand built. yeah, its heavy. really really heavy. they had 6 guys, then 8 guys load it into the truck. so, i'm thinking a new year's/tank moving party...i'll buy the beer?? :0) really, the moving company idea is a great one! i think i will try that...i would be a little upset if it got dropped! i can't wait to see if it holds water...thanks!

If it took 8 guys to get that tank on a truck then they must have been the 8 weakest guys you have ever met. My buddy and I took a 150 gallon tank that had 1/2" down 14 steps and it was not that bad at all. I think that glass cages were a little mis-understood because there is no way a 300 gallon tank weighs 1200 pounds, unless it is like 2" thick glass and even then........

I would make sure those jacks are going to be locked in place and are sitting on some kind of a concrete pad. I would have a
a 4X6 beam on each one across the floor joinst and it would probably be a good idea to run the numbers on what kind of span that you can handle at 2000lbs. Your looking at doing a considerable amount of damage if you don't plan this correctly.
Last think you want is any settling after 6 months.

the beam is an excellent idea. it is concrete down there...there's a big ole workshop under the dining room, where the tank is going...all the fuge stuff and equipment is going to be in the workshop too...thanks!
