starting to get worried

I am getting a little worried. I think both my trimmas are dead (may have starved, they wouldt get close enough to the food to eat it). my shroom looks dead, my leather is unhappy, my zoas seem a little annoyed but besides that are okay, and algae has covered my tank (diatoms). I did a 5g water change yesterday, and am planning on doing a 1-3g WC today. what else can I do? I am planning on going to get some carbon soon, and am testing levels now (ammonia and nitrate, if they read okay will test nitrite). what could have caused this? I am hoping to get my skimmer started today. will post levels soon, thanks.
