Oceanic's web site sucks as we all know, but can any of you tell me this, what is the difference between the tech and the ultimate series tanks? and why do they cost more?

your best bet might be to call them. click on the contact link on there site. I am not sure what the ultimate features, that the Tech's don't and vise versa.

I just got an 70gallon Ultimate Series, the difference between it and the the Tech Series are the square overflow, black silicon, and Euro bracing. The Ultimate Series are pretty much the standard oceanic tank except the front glass panel is Starfire and the back glass panel is black tinted glass.

Jasonincuritiba - Ultimate Series? Any pics of your tank?

I have not heard of the ultimate series. Are these pricing less than the tech tanks?

They are about $70 less than the tech series, basically all of the new Oceanic tanks will be Ultimate Series or Tech Series, with Starfire on all of them except for the bowfronts

No Starphire on bowfronts , that sucks.

I hope they change that and they also break the mold by making larger sizes with much greater widths like 30" and more, and also make big and small cubes.

Oceanic has a chance here to dominate the rapidly growing market of reefers moving up on their 2nd and 3rd tanks (comparatively affordable vis a vis going custom).

Mass producing high quality tanks with Starphire viewing panels is an excellent first step. The logical 2nd step would be the bigger sizes, greater widths, cubes and (of course) BOWFRONTS!!

Don't forget the chinese competition is starting to come in with some very nice 3 piece (bent-cornered front panel) glass tanks and I'm sure the other developments will follow if Oceanic or another domestic company doesn't step up.

Amen on the greater depth. Hopefully, with the increased popularity of cubes, the market will start to demand added depth in standard tanks. About time the US catches up with Europe and goes away from the long, skinny, great wall of rock tanks. I'd be all over one of Oceanic's smaller 3' tanks if it came in a min 24" (30" would be gravy) depth.

I love my 120 48X24X24.

Now if they made a 48X30X24 I'd be thrilled.

With the center overflow and the tank being 6 inches wider (front to back) the tank would be perfect.

theop, sorry i missed your question regarding the fans. i got them off of ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Metal-Halide-Aqu...QQcmdZViewItem

did a little modding to them to get them to fit in the space between the tank and canopy. from distributor on left, i eliminted the bracket, put in a hole to run a rod through on right:

Those fan s look exactly like the Azoo brand fans that come in 2 and 4 fan arrays that Dr Fosters sells. These 6 fan arrays appear to be made by the same Chinese manufacturer anyway.

Hi,

Here is my 90g Oceanic Tech Tank w/ Oceanic Model 2 Sump:

http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/inde...ic=123866&st=0

I am still trying to decided on lighting, but know I want 2x250w MH + VHO or T5 in a nice clean pendent that can sit on the tank. Any suggestions welcome.

The tank just came in today, but it has not been delivered to my house yet (hopefully soon).

the coralife unit's have dual 250w HQI, plus PC actinic's. J3REEF and I both have 400w solaris unit's over our 120's.

Personally, I'd steer clear of any lighting with the "Coralife" name on it. I've had nothing but problems with them and have heard the same from many others. I have the Tech 120 and bought the Outer Orbit 250 watt HQI w/ T-5's (48 inch).

Can anyone with the 45 Tech comment about the Oceanic sump that fits that stand? I'd like to upgrade to that tank but not sure if the stock sump is the way to go.

Of course, no LFS in the area has the tank, so I'd be buying sight unseen.

Thanks.

i want one of these tanks so bad! LFS quoted 950.00 for just the 120 tank. No stand. Is that a bad price? It seemed higher compared to others.

The Oceanic mini sump is not really worth it IMO. You can go with either a 10g or 15H and silicone some baffles in. Im using a 10g and used some 1/4" acrylic for baffles. The sump cost me about $30 total.

The Oceanic sump is around $200.

I paid $1100 for both.

Your price was better. Esp if that includes the stand.

it was for both, I was told the price was going up after Jan. I bought my tank and stand in January because of that info.
