Cool ideas to use my new X10 for
I am new to using this unit. it seems like it is pretty limitless. any ideas that I can use this unit for?
Fish tank related or not. Roger

X.10 has tons of uses. Lighting controls, appliance controls, etc. On my system I use it to control lighting timers, wave pumps, chiller /heater controls, and buffer dosing. Just depends on what you have to interface with the X.10 equipment.

I have an AquaDyne Octopus 3K. Same concept - really helps automate my tank setup. I have enclosed a photo - I built a little sliding shelf for the controller, connections, and x.10 units. These plug into an APC UPS behind the controller. That keep power on the Octopus, my osmolator and a couple of other things at all times.
But then if you have an aquacontroller and x.10 gear - you already know this... I must be missing something - What was that questions again? :_)

So I also used to use x.10 for my home theatre to control lighting changes. I have a Pronto color remote that can control all things i/R and with X.10 you can get a i/R to RF converter so the options open up even more. Some use x.10 embedded in electrical outlets to control automatic curtains. There is a little chip called a firecracker that you can get that allows you to plug your computer into the x.10 world to control modules.
Only challenges are 1. need to bridge between the two phases on your electrical panel and 2. the clicking noises of the modules. That is why I went back to my Wave XR for current pumps because the constand clicking of the on/off of the modules (every 2 - 7 minutes) and the fact that the modules when used that much will wear out. |
