Air pump size for CC skimmer?
A lot has been written about air powered skimmers but I can't find any info on how much air needs to be injected for a given skimmer size. I plan on making a skimmer that is 6" by 3.5'. I have no idea on what size pump I need to use.

I really liked the Tetra Luft pumps, now marketed under the Coralife brand. They are quite powerful and not very noisy.

Dennis,
I use a Medo pump on my CC skimmer (4"x6'). Found one for cheap on Ebay. It's an excellent industrial pump but it is noisy (mine is in the basement so no problem). I wired in a dimmer switch so that I can control the output, works great. Here's a link for one that up for auction now... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=3212 Cheers, Scott

Thank you for the replies. Keep them coming.
Do you have air flow and power consumption figures for those pumps? I am mostly interested in how many liters per min or CFM etc the pump needs to put out. This is important to me because I live in Australia and most probably can't get the same brands as overseas. Also noise is a factor because the pump will be in the stand. Thanks again. |

I ended up getting a resun LP-20 diaphragm pump. It is quiet and pumps liters per min/ 0.71cfm. Will this be enough? Skimmer is 3 1/2' x 6"

do not get a tetra deepwater pump,,they are total junk,i have 2 that have been sent back to tetra twice and now they have the same problem..they are going to find a home under 50000000lbs of garbage.that means they're on their way to the dump.
