Ich

Few questions about Ich,
1- I have 1 Regal (Hippo)Tang and 1 Banner fish they have a lot of ICH on their bodies. Other three fish have not even a spot in same tank. Why?
2- is Cleaner shrimp enough for the ich problem or i should take other course of action too?
3- Should i use Ich Medicine to treat the ICH, Last time when i aded all my demsel died including one comon clown.
now i have Two marron clowns and 1 small three band demsel.

Your early reply is appreciated.

I would set up a hospital tank and run hyposalinity on all the fish for 6-8 weeks. The sticky note at the top of the forum has links to articles on ich, if you're interested in some reading.

You can do hypo on whole show tank because there is nothing except the shrimp to die on you due to hypo. Adjust salinity gradually.

You should remove the shrimp. Put it in QT and support it with some live rock or other cycled filtration medium. Ich will die in the QT as you do hypo in the show tank. Both for six to eight weeks depending on temp.

if their is LR in the tank. hypo won't work on the main tank. your best best is to do hypo in a seperate hospital tank.

If there is mature live rock in show tank do not do hypo in show tank.

But from what he sounds I think there is little growth on LR, if any.

I wouldn't run hypo on live rock. That will kill any animals that are on the rock, which I wouldn't want. Depending on the quality of the live rock, the deaths could spike the ammonia.

I am also a newbie, but have the same issue with two henniochas (sp?)

1. LFS says it is stress, ich only appeared on new fish, all other fish are still OK. Ich was very bad on 2 henioccas (sp?)
2. Before ich got out of hand, added a 2nd cleaner shrimp. Fish spent a lot of time with both cleaners, but ich continued to worsen.
3. From previous fish fungus problem, I bit the bullet and purchased a simple 10gal QT with sponge filter, need to keep up with water changes to manage amonia levels and then treated with appropriate medicine or hypo salinity treatment -- many opinions out there, I went with meds in the QT and fish recovered quickly. Heniocchas in QT are doing well, just waiting out ich cycle. No other fish in DT have developed ich.

hope this helps, but remember I'm new too.
