Trigger feeding
What's your trigger's favorite food? My sargassum is not an aggressive feeder. Is this normal? He eats just about anything I throw in the tank (bloodworms, brine shrimp, formula two, nori, and squid), but doesn't scarf it down like my other fish (rabbit, dottyback, and damsel).
I just want to make sure he's happy. He's by far the coolest fish ever. Robb |

Remember triggers need to wear down their teeth like many other predators; purchase a fresh baby rock clam (quarter to fifty cent sized) and give it a decent crack across the shell (I use pliers or tap it with a hammer).
Your trigger will have to chew the shell to get to the meaty treat inside; this will also aid in needed calcium to the diet as well as occupy part of their day. This will also work on puffers and wrasse species.

You can also feed fresh raw shrimp with the shell on oysters, clams scallops, krill, mysis, shrimp. I also feed mine cockel in a shell and bio blend carnivore pellets. Just try and give as much of a variety as possible.

Thanks for all the advice. I just hope he can get to the food before the rabbit!

I usually go to a seafood market or the seafood section of the grocery store and buy a variety of stuff...clams, shrimp, fish, oysters, and squid. I cut it into "bite size" pieces. Then just put them in ziploc snack bags and throw them in the freezer. I lay them flat and keep the thickness of the bag small. If you make the bag too thick, it will be hard to break off during feeding time.
I think next time I may try putting it in eggcrate to make little cubes. We'll see. I also feed Aquadine pellets and the really thick flakes for variety.
